Galatians 5:16-23 teaches that at any moment we are either walking by the Holy Spirit or according to the sin nature. Walking by the Spirit, enjoying fellowship with God, walking in the light are virtually synonymous. During these times, the Holy Spirit is working in us to illuminate our minds to the truth of Scripture and to challenge us to apply what we learn. But when we sin, we begin to live based on the sin nature. Our works do not count for eternity. The only way to recover is to confess (admit, acknowledge) our sin to God the Father and we are instantly forgiven, cleansed, and recover our spiritual walk (1 John 1:9). Please make sure you are walking by the Spirit before you begin your Bible study, so it will be spiritually profitable.

Douglas Petrovich

Douglas Petrovich

Dr. Douglas Petrovich is a native Ohioan, has been involved in Christian service and various educational institutions since the 1980s, and he has taught over 30 different courses. Dr. Petrovich was ordained in a non-denominational church in 1998, and he has served as a pastor in California and Siberia, Russia.

He was invited by Slavic Gospel Association to lead the founding of a seminary in Akademgorodok (Russia), called Novosibirsk Biblical-Theological Seminary, where he served as Academic Dean and Assistant to the President for 10 years. He later served as Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Shepherds Theological Seminary in Cary, North Carolina. He has also taught at the University of Toronto and Wilfrid Laurier University.

While he has taught courses in ancient history, Egyptology, biblical studies, theology, and pastoral studies, his two areas of greatest specialization are biblical history and the exegesis of the biblical languages. He has studied/taught Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Middle Egyptian, and Late Egyptian. He is an historian, archaeologist, epigrapher, and Egyptologist, and he has participated in archaeological digs at Hazor (Israel), Shiloh (Israel), and Tell Tayinat (ancient Syria).

His groundbreaking research on the reading of inscriptions of the earliest alphabetic script led to the publication of his book, The World’s Oldest Alphabet: Hebrew as the Language of the Proto-Consonantal Script, and his publications can be found on his academia.edu webpage.

He and his wife, Sherri, have three children.
