Galatians 5:16-23 teaches that at any moment we are either walking by the Holy Spirit or according to the sin nature. Walking by the Spirit, enjoying fellowship with God, walking in the light are virtually synonymous. During these times, the Holy Spirit is working in us to illuminate our minds to the truth of Scripture and to challenge us to apply what we learn. But when we sin, we begin to live based on the sin nature. Our works do not count for eternity. The only way to recover is to confess (admit, acknowledge) our sin to God the Father and we are instantly forgiven, cleansed, and recover our spiritual walk (1 John 1:9). Please make sure you are walking by the Spirit before you begin your Bible study, so it will be spiritually profitable.

David Farnell

David Farnell

Dr. Farnell is Senior Professor of New Testament at The Master’s Seminary. He holds the PhD degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in New Testament and the MDiv and ThM degrees from Talbot Theological Seminary. From 1991–1997, he was a professor of Biblical Studies at Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, AL, where he chaired the Department of Pastoral Theology and Biblical Studies from 1991–1994. In addition, he served as Academic Dean at Southeastern from 1994–1997. Dr. Farnell served as a teaching assistant in the areas of New Testament and Bible Exposition at Talbot Theological Seminary.

Dr. Farnell has pastored several churches and published extensively in books and periodicals. He ­continues an emphasis on historical-critical ideologies with on-going research into recent interpretive trends in Gospel research. He is the host of “The Danger Zone” on Worldview Weekend Radio. He specializes in the impact of historical-critical philosophical ideologies in New Testament Criticism and Interpretation.

He currently pastors Grace Bible Church in Ventura County, CA. He is also Associate Editor of the Defending Inerrancy website.
