Speakers for the 2020 Conference

jewish torah scroll cropThe 2020 Chafer Pastors’ Conference (March 9–11) will feature twelve presentations by Scott Aniol and Allen Ross.


Allen P. Ross is Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Beeson Divinity School and has taught Hebrew grammar to seminary students for over thirty years. He served as translator and editor of the New King James Version and commented on Genesis and Psalms in The Bible ­Knowledge Commentary. His educational background includes:

  • Ph.D., University of Cambridge
  • Th.M., Th.D., Dallas Theological Seminary
  • B.A., Biblical Studies, Bob Jones University

Dr. Ross has contributed numerous articles to scholarly journals. Previously, he taught at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry and Dallas Theological Seminary, and served as director of the Christian Leadership Center, Tallahassee, FL. He is married to Dr. Jan Ross.

He is the author of Introducing Biblical Hebrew, Holiness to the Lord: A Guide to the Exposition of the Book of Leviticus, Creation and Blessing: A Guide to the Study and Exposition of Genesis, Recalling the Hope of Glory: Biblical Worship from the Garden to the New Creation, A Commentary on the Psalms (3 volumes), and Malachi Then and Now: An Expository Commentary Based on Detailed Exegetical Analysis.

Dr. Ross will take us through a framework for a biblical theology of worship, which will open up the Word of God on the subject and challenge many of our ­presuppositions and opinions on worship. He will teach six sessions.


Scott Aniol, PhD, is an author, speaker, and teacher of culture, worship, aesthetics, and church ministry philosophy. He is Associate Professor and Chair of PhD Worship studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; he founded Religious Affections Ministries; he lectures around the country in churches, conferences, colleges, and seminaries; and he has authored several books and dozens of articles. Scott is the editor of Artistic Theologian, a scholarly journal of worship and church ministry, and serves as chair of the Biblical Worship Section of the Evangelical Theological Society. He also serves as an elder at his church in Fort Worth, TX.

Scott holds a masters degree in Theological Studies (SWBTS), a masters degree in Aesthetics (NIU), and a PhD in Worship Ministry (SWBTS).

To complement Dr. Ross’ studies, Dr. Scott Aniol will further challenge and develop our understanding of the role, purpose, and standards for music in worship. He will teach six sessions.
