Insights Into Biblical Creation and Other Critical Biblical Studies

Chafer Theological Seminary (CTS) continues to stand for an inerrant Bible and a literal interpretation. One of the foundational doctrines derived from this is a young earth creation (with or without a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2). Young Earth creation was a standard view of literal inerrantists in the 60s and 70s, but is poorly represented among contemporary evangelical elites.

Many Christians have not yet truly come to grips with the evidence of a young Earth vs. an old Earth compromise with the presuppositions of evolution’s time tables.

The 2016 Chafer Conference's keynote speaker Dr. Steve Austin is one of the most profound scientific voices for biblical creationism today and he addressed some of these issues.

Tommy Ice's observations from his recent trip to the "Christ at the Checkpoint Conference" in Bethlehem kicked off the conference.

Bruce Baker's paper, "What on Earth is God Doing?" presented a comprehensive overview of God's plan for the ages, from Genesis to Revelation.

Ray Mondragon enlightened us with his paper on "Babel – Implications and Evidence of Early Advanced Culture" – discussing significant implications of the historical event, and actual evidence that early civilizations were very advanced, not primitive as current evolutionary thinking dictates.

Charlie Clough discussed "Sin, Deception, and the Corruption of Science: A Look at the So-Called Climate Crisis".

Dan Hill's presentation on "African Tribal Religion and its Influence on American Culture and the American Church" was a real eye-opener..

David Roseland discussed "Theological Method and John Nelson Darby" during his presentation.

Andy Woods spoke on "The Kadesh Barnea Paradigm as a Solution to the Problem of Hebrews 6:4–6".

We also had a special Seder meal presentation by Guillermo (Bill) Katz of Chosen People Ministries.

Passage: Hebrews 6:4-6
Series: 2016 Chafer Theological Seminary Bible Conference
Duration: 1 hr 18 mins 4 secs
The warning found in Hebrews 6:4-6 has provoked difficulty and disagreement among Bible interpreters and exegetes. Gromacki observes that this passage is “Probably the most controversial passage within Hebrews…” As a result of this difficulty, various interpretations have arisen. Most Calvinist and Reformed interpreters insist that the warning passage is too strong to apply to believers and thus unbelievers are in view in these verses. Arminians contend that the passage is speaking of genuine believers who are at risk of losing their salvation. Others argue that these verses are speaking of genuine believers and the severe warning constitutes a mere hypothetical scenario. Still others contend that theses verses speak of believers who are in jeopardy of losing blessings. Who is right? How are interpreters to make sense of this difficult passage?

Passage: Genesis 10-11
Series: 2016 Chafer Theological Seminary Bible Conference
Duration: 1 hr 13 mins 22 secs

Most world almanacs list 193 independent countries in the world. Linguist John Oller Jr. claims that there are 6912 distinct languages with 94 different language families in the world today. Where did all these nations and these many languages come from? The answer to this question is unknown to the secular world. Their best explanation is that all these must have come as a result of many years of evolutionary development. But the best answer is given to us by revelation, the account of Babel in Genesis 11.

The secular world does not view the account of the Tower of Babel as historical. Even most believers do not consider Babel as important as other major events, particularly in the book of Genesis. However, like the Flood and the Fall of mankind, the impact of Babel continues to influence our world even today. In fact, Babel has far-reaching implications. Babel explains the origin of national entities as well as our struggles to communicate with those from other cultures. I am reminded of this each year that I go to Ukraine to teach. Without a translator, I am close to useless there.
